OPENING NEW DOORS:
THE GAY AND LESBIAN COMMUNITY CENTER OF SOUTHERN NEVADA CELEBRATES THE GRAND OPENING OF ITS ROBERT L. FORBUSS BUILDING APRIL 6 AT 10 A.M.
On Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m., The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada, the Valley’s premier resource for the LGBTQ community and its allies, will celebrate the grand opening of its new multi-million dollar state-of-the-art facility – The Robert L. Forbuss Building – located at 401 S. Maryland Pkwy.
“This is not only a tremendous milestone in The Center’s 20-year narrative, but a truly remarkable moment for all of Southern Nevada,” said The Center’s Executive Director Candice Nichols. “Our presence amidst this Downtown revival almost quadruples us in size and is a testament to society’s support for what we’re doing to empower all individuals. We cannot wait to see what’s in store for the next 20 years as we settle into our new home.”
To help facilitate this historic event and show support for The Center’s renaissance, community dignitaries including Sen. Harry Reid, Mayor Carolyn Goodman, U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, Councilman Bob Coffin and others will offer words in The Center’s expansive event hall following the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting. The Center’s Board of Directors will also be present for the occasion, as will many of the organization’s most dedicated supporters. Bronze Café, The Center’s in-house dining establishment, will be in full operation with its extensive menu of artisan sandwiches, salads, vegan dishes and a myriad of beverage offerings. Downtown neighbor Sweet Spot Candy Shop will also provide a delectable candy buffet specially for the grand opening party.
Purchased in Aug. 2011, the free-standing building is 16,000 square feet on 1.1 acres of land in Downtown Las Vegas. The contemporary space is energy efficient and includes an inviting outdoor courtyard with a basketball court, expansive library, modern and comfortable furniture, delicious and affordable Bronze Café, multipurpose events hall and conference rooms, spacious youth room complete with a 75-inch 3D television, pool table and computer area, and much more. Last year, The Center assisted more than 36,000 individuals and plans to accommodate even more people by growing its programs and services.
