Lotus of Siam

(10 Ratings)
Critically acclaimed Thai cuisine

A strip mall in Vegas' Commercial Center seems an unlikely place for one of the city's best Thai restaurants, but food critics consistently review Lotus of Siam as just that. Chef Saipin Chutima recreates the Northern and Bangkok-style cuisine of her native country with the skill of a master.

Quintessential diamond in the rough

Lotus of Siam is a justifiably acclaimed Thai restaurant that has received worldwide praise from some of the finest chefs. Regular tourists and locals love the flavorful food too! There are so many choices, helpfully segregated into regional and chef favorites, and the wine selection is as vast as the menu. Sure, the lunch buffet is quick, convenient, and inexpensive, and there are some great items available, but the true artistry is in the menu items, worth every dollar of cab fare for the mile or so from The Strip. And don't let the rough exterior of the condemned-looking Commercial Center fool you: not only is Lotus of Siam still open, but it's clean, comfortable, and worthy of its stellar reputation. The wait can be hours for dinner without reservations, and even the lunch crowd arrives right at 11:30 when they open, but your taste buds will thank you.

Excellent and affordable food.

Lunch buffet is just a deal. Food is fresh, delicious and changes daily. There is plenty of vegetables and fruits for those on healthy diets. The place seems nondescript from outside located in the ugly Commercial Center but the inside is much bigger than it appeared from outside and very clean and organized. Good service. I may not like all the dishes offered but I have been impressed but the taste and freshness of the food. A must if you have a car and like Thai food..

Best Thai Food. Period.

I just ate dinner there again last night - luckily Lotus of Siam is only about six blocks from my house, so I can call in a take-out order and avoid the long line of people waiting for a chance to have some of Saipin Chutima's excellent food offerings. The menu has a wide range, including not-often-seen northern Thai specialties. Wine pairings include a lot of reislings and lighter wines that go well with the spicy delights. Whatever you want, it is cooked perfectly here: duck, chicken, seafood, beef, pork - if you don't know what you want or if you are overwhelmed by the options, the staff or perhaps even the chef herself will help you decide. It doesn't really matter, because you can't really go wrong with any selection. When anyone comes to Las Vegas for a visit, Lotus is always one of the restaurant's we enjoy. Sometimes Saipin will take your order, changing your level of heat based on what she thinks you can handle. A medium (5) here is probably a 7 or 8 elsewhere, depending on the dish. The dining environment is nothing to brag about, but whether celebrity or foodie or hungry tourist, no one even notices the strip mall chic surroundings once they get their first taste of heaven. The service is always spot on; call at least one day in advance for reservations because they don't answer the phone until the evening hours. The dining room is currently being expanded to include the space next door - it was supposed to be finished in December but looks like it won't be open until later in February 2010.
