Went to Leather Church on 3/13
Got there wearing my leather and the first thing I tried to do was to get a drink but the idiot bartender made it a point to let me know he disliked me, it was this dumb looking scruffy guy with glasses on wearing a harness on top of his t-shirt. Obviously he's into bears cause he made sure I noticed that he was intentionally ignoring me and helping everyone around me while I tried to get his attention. Didn't even make eye contact or anything, and it wasn't even that I gave him attitude or something. He did piss me off though. Barry, the other bartender had to come from the other side of the bar to serve me a drink. Although I told Barry what had just happened I don't think he cared enough. This is customer service 101, that bartender looked like he hated his job and probably anyone that's not a bear. I think has happened to me me twice at that bar with different bartender. The last time it was a big bear looking one. I want to say that I got discriminated for not being a bear cause if it was because I'm Latino, then we have a huge problem. Those bartenders are not practicing the equality that gay people demand out loud. Very sad that this type of hate exists within our own community..... and we still want heterosexuals to tolerate us when we can't even tolerate members of our own gay community. Shameful!

    • How can it be a country/western bar when none of the customers are country/western?
Charlie's is a good bar. The bartenders are handsome, friendly, and know how to mix a drink. prices are more than fair. Almost every night has a theme so there's appeal for lots of interests. And they have an underwear night, which might be typical n Las Vegas, but in the rest of the country they're rare. But why are they a country/western bar? Not a single customer wears western wear or a cowboy hat, and the music is strictly mainstream gay dance club tripe. Go, have a good night, enjoy the mix of people. But country/western? Where? What? I just don't get it.

Tacky disappointment with a side of heartburn
What a joke this place is. Share charges $60 per person for out of towners, so we came here. Too loud, trying too hard to be a booth dance bar, no strippers or go go boys, too much sugar water in the weak drinks. I hate this town.

Fun People and more than you'd think a Country Bar would be...
Charlie's is one of the first bars that we went to when we moved to Vegas almost 4 years ago, and it remains one of my favorites for a place you can drop into and be with Friends and have a few drinks. They do line dancing lessons on Thursday night; and they have a "Men of Charlie's" contest once a month. But it's not only country. Wednesday nights are underwear nights where men in underwear drink free. Friday night has go-go dancers, and you can check out the special events on their web site. Our personal favorite is Leather Church, where the various leather clubs in Vegas gather the 2nd Sunday of each month. It's a fun social event with raffle prizes, bootblack on site, and $8 beer bust.

      Meet the locals
Especially on Sunday late afternoon/evenings, Charlie's draws a great mix of more than just cowboys, just as more than a few pop/R&B/Latin songs are sprinkled between Strait and Swift (though the line dancers have steps for those too). The well-designed dance floor is large enough to accommodate plenty of two-steppers, but located away from the entrance/bars/restrooms/gathering areas, helping the thick crowd flow a bit quicker at the busiest times. Much like the same-named locations in Phoenix, Denver, and Chicago, the former Backstreet has learned how to incorporate country charm into a gay format that even disco bunnies can't resist every now and then, making this Charlie's as popular as the one in nearby Phoenix.

      Rude and cowboy pretentious
I walked into this bar thinking that I would be welcomed with down home country hospitality, WRONG. Even though I don't fit the stetson wearing, wrangler sportin clientele that this bar seems to covet, I still enjoy country music and having a great time line dancin with my friends. The music was good to listen to, but waiting at the bar for over ten minutes for a bar tender to even acknowledge my presence, totally turned me off. When I was finally served, I felt like I was a total burden and should feel bad about ordering a beer. I felt this was the type of bar that restricts its hospitality for those that "fit" its "preferred" patrons rather than embracing the diversity that our community celebrates. So close to pride weekend, I would think this establishment would favor having new comers visit their digs; however, new faces seem to be unwelcomed and discouraged from venturing into this bar that lacks any sort of couteousness that one would expect. Thank you Charlie's staff for saving me the hassle of ever considering wandering in again.
