The annual National Night Out event is fast approaching. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, this is the 32nd annual celebration of which the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department promotes throughout our community.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR NORTHWEST AREA COMMAND LOCATIONS:
1. What is National Night Out?
National Night Out is celebrated annually in communities all across the United States. Citizens in 15,000 communities and all 50 states, with over 37 million people are expected to participate this year. National Night Out is designed to (1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) strengthen police and community relationships: and, (4) send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and working together to prevent crime.
2. How can our neighborhood participate?
Neighborhoods and apartment/condo communities are encouraged to hold an event that fits the needs of their resident base. Common events include BBQ’s, potlucks, community park movie nights, Block Parties, child related activities, etc. You and your neighbors design and plan an event that will encourage everyone to come out and participate! There is no wrong way to do National Night Out!
3. What time should our event be?
Typically, most events take place between the 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM time span. Keep in mind that August is a hot month in Las Vegas and shade or covered locations are encouraged if possible.
4. Where can we get more information regarding event/promotional ideas and items?

5. What will LVMPD Northwest Area Command do to support our event?
LVMPD Northwest Area Command will provide patrol participation by roving to the various events and lend support to those who are attending. You are encouraged to invite specialized Details who may be available on a “first requested” basis, such as SWAT, K-9, etc.
6. Who is our point of contact for our event in Northwest Area Command?
Crime Prevention Specialist Kathy Cassell can be reached at 702-828-4305, or via email, at k2482c@lvmpd.com. Kathy will coordinate event locations and times so that Northwest Area Command can provide patrol attendance on that night.
